Who Are We?

UCLA Womxn's Ultimate (BLU), is a nationally ranked ultimate frisbee team dedicated to promoting both athletic and personal development. Increased financial accessibility aids in the empowerment of our players and the equitable growth of the sport as a whole. BLU's ethos revolves around teamwork, sportsmanship, and embodying the "spirit of the game," and these ideals have brought us success in all aspects of our college experiences.

The financial commitment associated with playing ultimate is substantial. Unfortunately, UCLA Club Sports does not provide sufficient aid, so BLU largely relies on self-funding. A single player's dues regularly exceed $350 per quarter to cover tournament fees, transportation, food and lodging, uniforms, and various other expenses. However, these dues do not account for plane tickets to out-of-state tournaments, such as the new East Cost Invite in Frederica, Northwest Challenge in Seattle, and hopefully, Nationals in Madison. 

In addition to the expenses of attending UCLA, these fees create a significant financial burden on our players. Many of our athletes take on extra work hours to meet both academic and ultimate-related financial responsibilities. In our commitment to inclusivity, we strive to make ultimate accessible by subsidizing player dues and offering monetary aid to those in need. However, rookies often forgo trying out for BLU due to the daunting cost, a barrier that we do not believe should not hinder participation in our sport.

Despite being a relatively new sport, ultimate has experienced rapid growth, and BLU has emerged at the forefront. Last year, we utilized your Spark donations to fuel our highly competitive season and place 13th in the country at Nationals! To continue this momentum, we seek resources that will allow us to focus more on team development rather than financial constraints.
