Exhibition: "Home—So Different, So Appealing"

HomeSo Different, So Appealing is a major museum exhibition organized by the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) opening June 2017 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Home will contain 95 artworks by 42 modern and contemporary U.S. Latino and Latin American artists, offering a groundbreaking look at one of the world’s most basic social concepts. The exhibition will be on display at LACMA until October 2017 and then travel to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) in November 2017.

Home is opening doors!  This exhibition will mark the very first time a major Los Angeles museum will hold an extensive group show focused on U.S. Latino and Latin American art from the 1950s to the present. Help us realize this milestone event for Los Angeles, where Latinos now compose nearly 50 percent of the population.

Home includes Bruins! Artists Carmen Argote (BA, 2004; MFA, 2007), Leyla Cárdenas (MFA, 2004), Christina Fernandez (BA, 1989), Salomón Huerta (MFA, 1998) and Camilo Ontiveros (MFA, 2009) will each have works on display. Support the exhibition and support Bruin artists!  One silkscreen print by Huerta is available for a $2,500 donation (see gift levels, right).

HOME GOAL

Please help us raise $10,000 to go toward exhibition installation and catalog production. The Home exhibition will be geared to a general audience of all ages, and tours and materials will be in Spanish and English. The catalog will be a significant contribution to art history scholarship and will be used in classrooms for years to come. In return for your gift, we offer a range of thank-you gifts, from shout-outs, to your name in the exhibition catalogue, to art books from CSRC Press, and a private tour of the exhibition. One signed silkscreen print by Salomón Huerta, Home artist and UCLA Bruin, is available for a $2,500 donation.

Home has been funded in part by the Andy Warhol Foundation and grants from the Getty Foundation for its Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative. It will be the first PST exhibition to open, thereby setting the tone for unexplored and unexpected approaches to appreciating art from the Americas. Thank you for supporting Home
