Introduction
Hello! My name is Karen and I am a first year MPH student in the Epidemiology department at UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health (FSPH). This year, I decided to join the FSPH Team for the L.A. marathon because running for a cause has always been on my bucket list. It is a great opportunity for me to connect with peers outside of my department and train with them. Also, this is a fantastic way to raise funding for summer practicum experiences that will benefit communities worldwide. I am choosing to run the 5k event this year and am very excited for my first run!
The Problem
Entering this program, my peers and I all have a common goal of improving health outcomes of communities through program and policy development, research and more. We have learned how to recognize health issues within a community and certain skills on how to mediate those problems, such as program planning and finding associations between diseases and exposures. Our curriculum encourages us to gain fieldwork experience over the summer, which allows us to apply our newly learned skills. The FSPH running team is raising money that will allow me and my peers to pursue our various interests within the field and hopefully impact the community with our outreach efforts.
The Solution
Your gift will raise money for students like me to explore our interests in the field of public health and apply our skills, thus allowing us to become well-versed future public health professionals. Some internships are not able to provide compensation, but with your help and support, my peers and I can pursue the internship of our choice and make a difference in communities worldwide. YOU are helping us change the world one step at a time. Thank you for your support!
