Bruins Breaking Records: Get UCLA Lacrosse to Nationals!

We are UCLA Women’s Lacrosse, a fully self-funded club team made up of passionate, driven women who all share a love for this game. Our players come from all different different majors, from engineering to political science, with most girls adding 2-3 extracurricular activities beyond lacrosse and school as well. Despite all of our busy schedules, we practice together four nights a week and play games almost every weekend between the end of January and the beginning of May. This totals to about 15 hours a week dedicated to this program. Lacrosse is a priority for all of us because of the strong community we have built and the lessons we learn on and off the field that have shaped who we are as people. Both our A and B teams offer fun, competitive, and challenging environments where we are able to be our true selves and strive to get better every day.

We have started out the season strong with big wins, with B Team beating Cal Poly and A Team coming out strong against not only Santa Clara and Georgia, but also against the reigning National Champions, Michigan! With our competitive league season coming to a close, we are looking ahead to compete at our conference playoffs in mid-April as well as going for a National Championship during the beginning of May!

Despite our rising success within the program, UCLA Women’s Lacrosse receives NO money from UCLA Athletics. We are fully self-funded, so member dues cover a majority of our program's expenses. That being said, we are facing mounting costs with Nationals being all the way across the country in Virginia Beach this year and with us needing new uniforms due to new apparel requirements stemming from UCLA’s recent partnership with Under Armour. Since the founding of this club in 1993, we have continually grown in terms of size and competitiveness of the level of play. Our reputation not only as ambassadors of the sport, but of our university as well, has allowed us the opportunity to foster a growing interest and passion for the sport of lacrosse on the West Coast via multiple camps and clinics we put on throughout the year. Beyond getting better on a daily basis as a team, our club has the simultaneous goal of growing the sport of lacrosse and getting young female athletes excited about the potential to play lacrosse and come to a university like UCLA.

On top of growing the sport of lacrosse, our mission as a team is to make this sport a microcosm for life. We want to cultivate an environment within our team where our players are learning skills that can translate to their life off the field. The impact of sports on women has been demonstrated by their success in the business world. Studies show that 94% of women with C-suite positions played sports, with 52% continuing sports to a university level. Your contributions to UCLA Women’s Lacrosse allow us to continue to grow our program and build successful post-graduates. Our players are learning the skills necessary to be hard workers and leaders in the future, and we are honored to be able to pass on this sport that has given us so much down to younger generations.
