Our crowdfunding campaign has ended but you can still support Moniker Brass by clicking here.
Moniker Brass is an undergraduate brass quintet from UCLA, with members Chris Chervet (trumpet), Chris Routh (trombone), Jessica Lipman (trumpet), Iona Pay (horn), and Vivi Kung (tuba). We are a self-formed group who seeks to inspire excellence in all we do - in performance, outreach and education. We are proud to announce that after a highly competitive audition process, we are one of the 5 collegiate brass quintets selected to take part in the prestigious American Brass Quintet Seminar at the Aspen Music Festival and School this summer!
The American Brass Quintet (ABQ) Seminar at Aspen is the country's premier brass chamber training program for emerging brass quintets. Beginning June 24th, we will engage in four weeks of daily, intensive study devoted exclusively to brass quintet repertoire, rehearsal techniques, private lessons, and performance, led by members of the American Brass Quintet.
In addition, we will have access to resources including public performances, master classes, workshops (e.g. composer readings and community engagement activities), and more than 400 additional performances, master classes, lectures and panels.
The American Brass Quintet, established 1960, is an institution in the brass world, and internationally recognized as one of the world's premier chamber ensembles. When not touring internationally, the group resides and teaches at the Juilliard School and the Aspen Music Festival. ABQ has premiered over one hundred and fifty contemporary works for brass, and has a discography of almost 60 recordings. They will serve as our coaches and private teachers this summer!
Aspen is an exciting and unparalleled professional level opportunity, but as a student-musicians, we lack the financial resources to take advantage of it. We're doing our best to cut costs by road-tripping to Aspen as a group to save on flights, and living off-campus in Snowmass to save on room and board, but we need your help! Here's a breakdown of the festival's costs, so can see exactly how your donation would help bring us closer to Aspen.
Supporting the musical endeavors of our group will project a positive impact on the UCLA and the greater world. You will become an advocate of music performance and education, an integral part of our culture that requires supporters like you to thrive and grow.
Attending Aspen isn't merely of benefit to our quintet - supporting our musical endeavor has the opportunity to positively impact the musical community at large.
We will feature you in a weekly Instagram shout-out on our story!
We will create a thank you video for donors at the $50 level, complete with a short jingle and send it directly to your email.
We will update you with pictures, videos, and blog posts available ONLY to donors during our 4 weeks at Aspen.
You will get a mini private concert featuring 15 minutes of music from us. We will travel to you within a 10 mile radius of UCLA, or live stream the concert to you!
