We're Almost There! Help us reach our final goal!

June 01, 2019

To our generous donors,

Thank you so much for your continued support and kindness in supporting IUSSC on our research trip to Mexico City! We are so grateful for how you have helped us pursue an incredible opportunity to bring about much needed change.

After going for our stretch goal of $1,000, we are currently 98% funded, which means that we need less than $300 to reach our new goal! With only two days left of our fundraiser, we humbly ask for your help once more by sharing the fundraising link with anyone else you know! Even a dollar makes a difference in helping our cause and we would be thrilled to reach our final goal in this last stretch!

Once, again thank you so much for all of your generosity in donating and taking the time to read this update! We are so grateful for your invaluable support and encouragement.

All our love,

The International Urban Sustainability Student Corps

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUOUS SUPPORT. WE NEED IT ONE LAST TIME!

May 26, 2019

DEAR DONORS,

WE HAVE REACHED 100% OF OUR INITIAL GOAL OF $16,000!!!!

and we couldn't have done it without your continuous support.

Thank you so much for believing in us and our cause! We appreciate every single dollar donated, and we are highly confident that we will be able to make a difference with your help.

We have 8 days left of fundraising, so the team and the fundraising committee has decided to go for a STRETCH GOAL of $1,000 more to top off our campaign.

That means 8 days to raise around $850, as our campaign has exceeded the 100% threshold. To do this, we need your help for the last time!

Help us make one last push for $850 more. This money will go towards purchasing camera equipment for our team to document our journey and to release a few educational videos about what we learned on our trip.

Please send the fundraising link to your close networks as well as any other people you may know that might be interested in supporting our cause. We need your help for the last time! Any and all donations will help.

Again, thank you so much for your love and support. We appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts.

With love,

The International Urban Sustainability Student Corps

WE ARE 98% OF THE WAY THERE. We need your help!

May 23, 2019

Hello everyone!

We just got an update from the Universidad Nacional Autonomá de México! They have set up a five day itinerary for us, which includes guided tours around Mexico City's water reclamation plants, architectural centers, and urban infrastructures. The key highlights for this week however, will be the opportunities that we will be given to present our research to the faculty and students at UNAM.

We are so excited to go to this wonderful university and collaborate with Mexico's brightest minds.

We can't do this without your help! Our fundraiser is currently at 98% completion, with $15,808 raised. That means we just need $192 to hit our $16,000 goal. We want to see this goal met by the end of this week!

As a last push, please share the link to this fundraiser to your networks; forward it to your families, your work buddies, your long-lost cousin that you happened to find a couple weeks ago, your college roommate who you haven't spoken to in years. Any amount of donation will help us make a difference!

Also, please check out our video that we uploaded a few weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsEkM-YrZP4

Thank you so much for your donations and cheers!

¡Ahora, a la Ciudad de México!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Help us make a push for $14,000!

May 12, 2019

To our beautiful, sweet, and precious donors:

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

We love you mothers! As we continue our journey through higher education, no matter what unique situations we are all in, it becomes more and more apparent every day how much all of you have sacrificed for us and how the ways you nurtured us play such massive parts in the people we are today.

A couple months ago, when asked by a club member about why he was so passionate about sustainable aquaculture/agriculture, our Vice President of Foreign Affairs, Kevin Neung, replied:

"My parents were farmers in Cambodia and sacrificed all of that and uprooted their lives to immigrate here to give us, their kids, better opportunities. It's kind of like farming's in my blood. My mom and dad gave me so much; they helped me realize my passion for agriculture AND prepared me in the best way possible to be academically successful. I realized that they had given me the perfect tools and opportunities to become a leader in the movement towards innovative and sustainable agriculture."

Every single student in this organization has a mother who has, in some way, prepped them to become influential leaders, ground-shakers, world-changers.

So we'd love to dedicate this trip and this effort to make Los Angeles more sustainable to you, our loving mothers. YOU GAVE US THE TOOLS NEEDED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. And as for our project update, WE HAVE RAISED $12,899 TOWARDS OUR $16,000 GOAL!!!!! Thank you so much for donating towards our cause. It means so much to us to have your support!

We have 22 days left in our campaign, and close to $3,000 left to raise! We want to make a push for $14,000 by the end of Mother's Day. That's right, we're calling for a $1,000 marathon in the next 24 hours! To do this, we need your help.

Please help us keep up this momentum by sharing this page with your family, friends, and networks! Every email you send out with our donation link get's us that much closer to our goal of $16,000.

AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DONATIONS! EVERY DOLLAR WILL GO A LONG WAY IN MAKING THE CITY THAT WE LOVE MORE SUSTAINABLE.

With love,

The International Urban Sustainability Student Corps

IUSSC Is Almost To 10K! Help Us Make That Push!

May 04, 2019

To our Amazing Donors,

My name is Paul, and I'm the President and Co-Founder of IUSSC at UCLA. First of all, I really want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your donations. To all of us here, every dollar you donate means the world because it shows that you believe in us and our ability to make a difference.

I just want to say a little bit about all the amazing people that I've come to work with through this organization.

About everyone in our current recruited class: these individuals are some of the most passionate and motivated students I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. My mother tells me that I've always been hard to impress-- which led me to cause her quite a bit of headache on how to keep me occupied as a child-- but this group never fails to inspire me on a weekly basis.

Our meetings every Tuesday are two hours of pure hustle, with student researchers running around right and left, discussing possible solutions, calling social representatives, writing emails, and just recently, reaching out to YOU for donations. I am so thankful to this organization for bringing together this group of individuals who I truly believe, have the potential to shake the world.

About the executive board: without them, this organization would be hopeless. We function seamlessly as a group, and the only regret that I have is that I hadn't met these people earlier on in my college career. I remember when I met Kevin, our Vice President of Foreign Affairs, for the first time. We were attending a talk about the sustainability of global megacities at the Hammer Museum, and during the panel talk, there was a burning question that I knew I had to ask, but couldn't muster the courage to do so. The room was full to the brim with leading sustainability experts, councilmen, and social entrepreneurs. However, upon Kevin's continuous prodding (remember, I had just met this guy), I finally mustered up the courage to ask the question.

"What are you planning to do about the waste problem in Los Angeles?"

The panel looked at each other, and all four answered in similar fashion: they had a rough plan, but there had been no specific strategy to tackle the gigantic waste situation in Los Angeles since 1969.

This question opened up the arena for our group to occupy. We now had a research space in which we could make a difference.

That's what Kevin and the rest of the executive board do: they push me and the people in this organization to new heights of courage, to new lengths of resourcefulness and passion.

This brilliant team has managed to do the unthinkable: raise $9455 in the first three days of our launch. That's more than 50% of the way to our goal. And we did that with your help. But we're going to need it again, because we want to make a push to hit the $10,000 mark by the end of the day today.

Raising $10,000 means so much to us because it means that all of our airplane tickets will be 100% funded. It means that we can erase any hint of doubt that even one of us won't be able to get to Mexico City.

Please help us keep up this momentum by sharing this page with your family, friends, and networks! Let's hit that 10K goal! Your donations will go so far in student-guided research efforts in shaping a brighter and more sustainable future for Los Angeles.

Cheers,

Paul Chung

President, IUSSC
