Support for UCLA Stroke Rescue Program in Memory of David Wadman

Thank you for your support! This fundraising page has closed, but you can still contribute to their cause here!

April 17 marks the second anniversary of David's passing, two years after a massive stroke left him with global aphasia and in need of 24-hour care.

This year we have decided as a family to honor his memory by raising money for the UCLA Stroke Rescue Program. At the core of this innovative program is the Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU), a specially-equipped ambulance built with a mobile CT scanner, point-of-care lab tests, telehealth connection with a hospital, and stroke medications, all designed to deliver proven stroke therapies to patients faster than ever before.

Approximately 2 million brain neurons die with every minute that passes after the onset of a stroke. That means that tens of millions of neurons die just in the time it takes to transport someone to the hospital. By the time David was diagnosed, the stroke had impacted most of the left hemisphere of his brain. The MSU reduces the time to treatment by upwards of 30 minutes. That's 60 million neurons saved!

UCLA's Mobile Stroke Unit is the first of its kind in the Western United States. We are hopeful that by supporting this amazing program we can help make this the new standard in stroke response everywhere and save other families the pain and loss caused by stroke.
