Research for a Cure: Parkinson’s Awareness Month

Thank you for your support! This fundraising page has closed, but you can still contribute to their cause here!

April marks the start of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and UCLA Neurosurgery invites you to collaborate with our team of outstanding physician-researchers and contribute towards finding the cure!

Donate today and DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT! A generous donor will match every gift, up to $1,000, to support Parkinson's Disease research at UCLA.

Parkinson Disease (PD) affects 1 in 100 people worldwide over the age of 60. It is the 2nd most common neurodegenerative disease in the world.

Over one million Americans live with PD, which makes everyday activities like buttoning your shirt, walking, and other fine movement difficult to impossible.

Patients also experience a slowing of their ability to move, tremor or shaking at rest, and an increase in falls. What many people don’t know is that PD sufferers can also experience increased rates of depression and dementia.

UCLA is committed to finding a cure for this debilitating disease and improving medical treatments in the meantime.

Dr. Nader Pouratian is a leading researcher in the field, specializing in surgeries that restore and preserve brain function for those suffering from PD. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), also known as a “brain pacemaker,” is just one of these game-changing PD treatments. DBS is a procedure where electric probes are implanted directly in the brain, sending impulses to targeted areas. DBS, while it isn’t a cure for PD, drastically improves otherwise debilitating symptoms.

Philanthropy has played a key role thus far in helping Dr. Pouratian and other researchers like him develop and study these types of life-altering therapies. Every dollar counts!

This April, UCLA aims to increase awareness about Parkinson Disease. Being diagnosed with Parkinson Disease changes everything. Your gift will go to immediate use and help us find the cure.

Thank you for your support!
