Your support of the UCLA Lambda Alumni scholarship helps to make possible the dreams of LGBTQ Bruins like our current Lambda Alumni Scholars, first-year undergraduate James Cabrera and second-year undergraduate Johnnie Yang.

Before coming to UCLA, his top choice university, James was a leader at home - caring for his grandparents and younger brother - and in his community, tutoring peers while earning the honor of salutatorian. Johnnie, a poet, a musician, and a change-maker, has already made a mark on the UCLA community, through involvement with USAC, and on Los Angeles, as a teaching assistant for Los Angeles public schools.

When you support our scholarship, you help enable the next generation of LGBTQ Bruin leaders. Through the UCLA Lambda Alumni Scholarship Fund, we provide critical support for outstanding students in need - students who, like James and Johnnie, will undoubtedly be the LGBTQ leaders of tomorrow.

Our Scholarship

The UCLA Lambda Alumni Scholarship recognizes outstanding LGBTQ undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in and out of the classroom, have financial need, and exhibit qualities of integrity and leadership. These are students who often - in confronting personal challenges

Each year, the UCLA Lambda Alumni Association awards at least one 4-year $1,000/year scholarship (for incoming freshman students) or 2-year$2,000/year scholarship (for incoming transfer students). We select a scholar from a competitive pool of applicants, and the awardee becomes a UCLA Alumni Scholar, part of a cohort of students who receive support from the UCLA Alumni Association and are asked to give back to the university. We take great pride in being a part of this scholarship tradition.

About Lambda

The UCLA Lambda Alumni Association serves the UCLA community of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) alumni with the goals of providing social, professional, community outreach, and mentorship opportunities. Through social events, professional networking, community service and student/alumni mentorship Lambda Alumni will create a sustainable network of LGBTQ alumni to support other alumni, students, and the larger LGBTQ community.

To accomplish our mission, we:

• Promote awareness and education;
• Welcome, congratulate, advise and mentor current LGBTQ students;
• Fundraise for scholarships and discretionary funds to support UCLA LGBTQ efforts;
• Advocate on behalf of the LGBTQ community at UCLA and beyond;
• Foster connections among LGBTQ alumni; and
• Represent UCLA in the community.
