Our crowdfunding campaign has ended but you can still support UCLA Club Fencing by clicking here.
WHO WE ARE
We are UCLA Fencing - a club sport that competes in the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California (IFCSC). We operate out of the John Wooden Center, in a room large enough to hold three strips. The problem is, it is difficult to maintain interest with a lack of equipment. We would also love to be able to travel to competitions, and get our newer fencers some experience!
UCLA CLUB FENCING NEEDS YOUR HELP
It is very difficult to maintain interest when it takes us thirty minutes each practice to find working equipment for everyone. This is especially true for competitive fencers, who expect more fencing time for a workout and opportunities to fence during practice. If we were able to invest in reliable equipment, we would have more time to fence during practice. Our coach would also be able to devote more time to one-on-one teaching, instead of spending the majority of practice fixing equipment.
Traveling creates a unique opportunity to bond, as well as gain competitive experience. This experience can instill a sense of confidence, and these trips will build friendships that will last a lifetime. You can be a part of helping a new fencer find a community, and discover who they are. You can create a space where students come to relax and have fun, while improving themselves mentally and physically.
HISTORY OF UCLA FENCING
The UCLA Fencing Team began with Melvyn North in 1960. He brought 25 years of coaching experience to the team, and coached the UCLA Fencing Club and Varsity program until 1974. In 1974, Heizaburo Okawa came to UCLA. Okawa was a U.S National Champion and Olympian. He coached the UCLA Fencing team until 1980, but every year we hold the Okawa Open, a competition named in his honor.
The UCLA Fencing club has been in existence for more than half of UCLA’s existence (it will be our 60th anniversary next year), and we continue to have success both on and off the strip today. Last year (2019), the women’s epee team took first in the IFCSC!
THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US AT CLUB FENCING FOR YOUR TIME AND DONATIONS!!!
Help UCLA fencers get hold of the most crucial pieces of safety equipment by donating just 8 dollars.
This donation can start getting fencers away from dry fencing and towards competitive electric fencing.
With this donation you can kit out a Bruin with a fencing jacket. This is a required piece of equipment in order to protect the torso and arms of the fencer.
This donation covers the most important aspect of required equipment. The SWORD! For 53$ Club Fencing can get hold of one of the three weapons Foil/Sabre/Epee.
The mask is required for the protection of the Bruin. With this donation Club Fencing can buy masks with conductive material to allow for electric foil and saber fencing.
An electric jacket also know as a lamé is an electrically conductive jacket worn by foil and sabre fencers in order to define the scoring area. By donating 96$ we can kit out one bruin with a lamé so they can do some competitive electric fencing.
With this amazing donation you will be kitting out a UCLA student with all the equipment to start fencing epee immediately.
With this donation you will be getting a Bruin an entire Electric Foil Set and therefore expanding UCLA's competitive foil team!
This donation will get one student all the equipment needed to fence saber and thus finally allowing us to have a full Sabre team this year.
Through this unbelievable donation we can finally replace our old broken scoring machines with a brand new one. This will allow for a more fun and competitive experience for all Bruin Fencers!
This ultimate donation will achieve the dream of the club having a wireless fencing system. This would remove all the wasted time that comes with fixing old hardware and thus give more time for practice and competitions!
