*STRETCH GOAL* Send UCLA Club Boxing to Nationals
WHO WE ARE
We are a group of dedicated students with a passion for the sweet science that is boxing. UCLA club boxing competes at the local, regional, and national level, representing the bruins with pride in and outside of the ring.
Our team welcomes anyone to join with no experience necessary. We hold practice for beginners and those looking to improve their fitness on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, those looking to compete at the highest level and step in the ring train together off campus.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Our club is a member of the UCLA Competitive Sports Organization, as boxing is no longer an NCAA sport. This means that we are provided with practice space from the school, but are responsible for our own travel fees, uniforms, and equipment, which can be very expensive. Members of the club are required to pay dues to participate, but we need donations to help keep the club affordable to students juggling all the other costs associated with being a a full time student. In order to send the team to Regionals in Reno, Nevada and Nationals in Lafayette, Louisiana this year, we need your help.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
We cannot compete without your help! Traveling to regional and national tournaments often involves long car rides or air travel. This year we are traveling to Reno, Nevada to [literally] punch our tickets to Nationals in Lafayette, Louisiana the first week of April.
We will be competing against dozens of schools all over the nation, hoping to show why UCLA isn't just number 1 academically. Last year, we were able to send 2 fighters to Nationals and come away with a National Champion in the 147lb female weight class. This year, our goal is to send at least 5 fighters to nationals.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO US
To all of us on the team, boxing is much more than a sport. It's an outlet that allows us to escape the pressures of a rigorous academic schedule, among many other things. Stepping in the ring to represent UCLA is a feeling not many get to experience, and with your help, more can. Our Coach Tony is a volunteer who gives us at least 10 hours a week of his own time, simply because he loves the sport and he loves us.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
Your donations will allow the UCLA club boxing team to continue to compete at the highest level. These competitions will continue to be streamed and recorded for your viewing pleasure. The emotions and feelings associated with stepping into the ring are unparalleled and you will be giving that to someone who knows that all too well. The inclination you feel to pass on the passion you feel for your sport, job, or whatever hobby you take up is what Coach Tony [see below] embodies day in and day out on his own time.
