At UCLA Lab School, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented acute pressures on our budget and the families that make up our community. Yet we remain unwavering in our support of Lab School families and in our commitment to diversity within our student population. This diversity—along with our expert and dedicated teaching faculty and staff—is our greatest strength.
At this moment, we call on the members of our community who are able to help our school and community with a gift to the Dr. Muriel Ifekwunigwe Emergency Fund for Families or the UCLA Lab School Annual Fund. Both funds support our students and families and foster diversity.
Dr. Muriel Ifekwunigwe Emergency Fund for Families. The fund was established in 2016 to honor this beloved UCLA Lab School nurse who served our community for 43 years. Throughout her tenure, she cared passionately for generations of UES and UCLA Lab School students and their families, often going above and beyond the call of duty to tend to their needs. The fund exists to benefit members of the UCLA Lab School community who face hardships and are in need of financial help or other support. Since March 2020, we have extended resources provided through the fund to current UCLA Lab School families experiencing financial hardships related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Your gift to the Dr. Muriel Ifekwunigwe Emergency Fund for Families ensures we may continue to help families as the crisis evolves and that we may help any family in need to overcome whatever hardship they may face.
UCLA Lab School Annual Fund. The fund exists to meet the greatest needs of our school that tuition alone cannot cover. It enables us to fully pursue our mission to promote innovation and excellence in education through research, outreach, and teaching and learning. Our expert and dedicated teaching faculty and staff are the heart of the school—salaries for these positions make up 88% of our annual budget. Each year, about 40% of our students receive tuition support. To meet the unprecedented need created by COVID-19, we are exceeding our tuition support budget and will offer over $3 million in awards for the 2020-2021 school year.
Your gift to the UCLA Lab School Annual Fund bolsters our capacity to provide the support needed to maintain diversity within our student population and to maintain the outstanding teaching faculty and staff who serve these students.
To honor our history of 138 years, our goal is to reach 138 gifts. Thank you for your support of UCLA Lab School and our families.
