If you know me, you probably know I used to be terrified of going anywhere near the doctor’s office. Ever since I was little, my mom had to actually bribe me with ice cream to get me to sit in the doctor’s office for even 15 minutes. Up until last year, I still despised going to the doctor’s office and tried to avoid it at all costs. However, in 2018, my dad needed surgery, which was terrifying because no one in my immediate family had even come close to needing surgery before and this entire situation was extremely unfamiliar. Everyone in my family was stressed about it, but the doctors, nurses, and other medical staff at UCLA health provided resources, knowledge, and comfort and helped our family through a difficult time. This experience made me realize that healthcare is more than just treating and diagnosing patients, healthcare workers have to navigate people’s emotions, fears, socioeconomic needs, culture, and language while providing care with compassion. Especially when it comes to children and their families, this can be extremely difficult. I created this fundraiser to help the UCLA Mattel Children’s hospital succeed because everyone here goes above and beyond to meet their patients' needs. Your donations will go towards initiatives such as the Chase Child Life Program, which helps train social workers to help chronically ill kids, Healing by Design, which creates specific architecture to promote happiness and healing in the hospital, the UCLA Children’s Discovery and Innovation Institute, which furthers research into efforts to improve child health care and create new models for health care delivery, and more! Especially during these difficult times, your support matters! Any amount of support is appreciated!
