Secure the Future of FEM!

What is FEM Newsmagazine?

FEM is UCLA’s intersectional feminist newsmagazine! Since FEM was founded in 1973, we have sought to provide our community with thoughtful feminist writing, artwork, videos, and more. We create a wide range of compassionate multimedia content that re-centers narratives often rejected or ignored by mainstream media.

To keep doing this vital work, we need your help.

Last year, thanks to the generous donations from our Spark Campaign, we were able to accomplish a lot and continue growing our magazine. But this year, things are going to look a little different. FEM is going to be operating entirely remotely, something we have never done before.

Despite the new challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has posed for us, we are determined to not only stay afloat, but to continue growing and improving. For that to happen, we need financial support.

This year is going to pose some unique challenges, but we’re up for it.

As FEM transitions to being fully virtual, we need to have access to equipment and software in order to produce high-quality digital content. Instead of focusing on quarterly print issues like we normally do, we’re focusing on creating three interactive virtual issues throughout the school year. That means we’ll need to purchase special software to ensure our virtual issues are as engaging as possible. Our radio, design, and video departments are going fully virtual too, which means we’ll need to provide our staff members located all across the world with the tools they need to keep making their content.

How can you help?

During this challenging, unprecedented time, your financial support would mean the world to us. Because of your donation, we will be able to host successful virtual events; create meaningful virtual articles, designs, videos, and radio shows; and keep supporting our FEM family.

Now, more than ever, in light of the election, the pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and more, FEM’s content is essential. Your donation will go directly to supporting emerging journalists and creatives embarking on their careers during a time in which journalism is more necessary than ever. Because of your contribution to FEM, we will be able to provide crucial information to our community as we navigate this historical moment.

FEM’s Past, Present, and Future:

Last year’s Spark Campaign was an overwhelming success. We were blown away by your generosity! With the money we were able to raise, we took FEM to a new level and “pushed the conversation forward,” as promised in our video from last year.

We have always been and always will be entirely 100% student-led––that’s part of what makes FEM so special. As student journalists, we are able to share our unique insights as well as empower young feminists at UCLA. We arm our audience with tools to navigate the world by offering feminist analysis, news, and creative work.

FEM isn’t just a publication. It unites people from all different backgrounds who are committed to unlearning and relearning alongside our global audience. We are a tight-knit community of people who come together to learn and grow from each other, and build lifelong friendships along the way.

Your donation is directly supporting a one of a kind, 47-year-old legacy of feminist thought and activism.
