Our crowdfunding campaign has ended. You can still support Bruins Supporting Veterans at UCLA by clicking here.
Bruins Supporting Veterans at UCLA is a student-run organization whose mission is to support American veterans by volunteering at events that serve veterans' needs, fundraising for various veterans' causes, and hosting events that increase awareness of the challenges veterans face.
For our project this year, we are assembling care packages and procuring other essential resources for homeless and newly housed veterans. In addition, our club is partnering with Village for Vets, a non-profit that locates and supports homeless veterans in need. In order to fully fund this project, we are raising $12,000 with the breakdown below:
Our project is focused on raising money for four important resources: care packages, move-in kits, emergency financial assistance grants, and sleeping bag coats.
Although the population of homeless veterans has been decreasing over the past few years, homelessness continues to exist as a significant problem that is affecting the veteran community. In California alone, it was estimated by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness in 2019 that almost 11,000 veterans were experiencing homelessness on any given night, with nearly 4,000 in Los Angeles. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has made this population even more vulnerable as it has put them at an increased risk for becoming ill.
With your support, we can help serve this veteran population during these challenging times. Your tax-deductible donation will help provide these veterans with the essential resources they need to stay warm, healthy, and safe. Because we are a student-run organization, we heavily rely on our generous donors for support. This is where we really need you. A donation of any size will help us support the homeless veteran population, and together, we can make a difference in these veterans' lives!
Since our founding in 2018, our club has worked with various veterans' organizations, including Operation Mend, Operation Gratitude, and the West Los Angeles VA. With Operation Mend, our members had the privilege of hosting meals for veterans with post traumatic stress disorder. Our volunteers have also assembled care packages and written thank-you letters to veterans overseas with Operation Gratitude. At the West LA Veterans Affairs campus, our volunteers worked to restore the Veterans Garden as well. It has been such an honor to serve our nation's heroes, and with our new project, we hope to further impact the amazing veterans who have dedicated their lives to fighting for our freedoms!
