Hello everyone, my name is Maxwell and I have pledged to raise $3000 for the Mattel Children’s Hospital at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Facility. Due to strict social distancing rules at the hospital due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the social interaction young patients experience with family, peers, and staff are largely limited. Many of the patients, who are already bravely undergoing treatment, may feel especially lonely, bored, and anxious due to the current situation, which ultimately leads to low morale and could even lead to slower recovery among the patients.
That is why Volunteer Services has started and re-adapting multiple patient programs in order to alleviate loneliness and boost morale. These programs include a large art program called Art at the Bedside, the “Birthday in a Box” and “Box of Cheer” programs, and music programs. Volunteer Services has also started the Mattel Youth Ambassadorship this year, which gives high schoolers like myself the opportunity to spread awareness to the financial needs of the programs at Mattel Children’s Hospital, while also tasking ambassadors to commit to several other service projects, including making cards and crafts to patients and staff. In turn, ambassadors gain insight into different aspects of the medical field.
When I volunteered at Ronald Reagan as a patient transporter last summer, I could never forget just how much kindness, care, and commitment the medical staff at Mattel’s hospital gave to their patients. Since I am no longer volunteering in-person at UCLA due to health concerns, I feel that I am obligated to continue helping patients and staff during this most crucial time. With the holidays coming up soon, I ask you to please contribute how ever much you can so that the patients at Mattel do not have to miss out on the celebration. Your donation, no matter how large or small, is greatly appreciated!
