UCLA has a rich history of African Americans who have made significant contributions to society, UCLA, Los Angeles, and the world. On June 25, 2020, UCLA announced its plans to establish the Black Bruin Resource Center (BBRC) after years of activism and organizing by students, alumni, faculty and staff.
It is the last black resource center established within the UC System and is a new hub designed to uplift and support the next generation of notable Black Bruins through leadership opportunities, scholarships and community-building. For Black History Month this year, the Black Bruin Resource Center will honor these black pioneers and changemakers who make us all proud to be Bruins.
In the spirit of Black History month, please consider giving to the Black Bruin Resource Center. Your gift will support and celebrate the programs and activities hosted by the newly established center this year. The sustainability of the BBRC is only made possible through the support of the Bruin community.
This center is pivotal to supporting our Black students during their time on campus and beyond. The center will support the unique Black Bruin experience and educational journey. The Black Bruin Resource Center’s Spark Campaign will highlight additional impactful events and individuals whose stories played a role in the growth of UCLA and lead the way to the establishment of the center.
Black students at UCLA make up only about 4% of the student population at UCLA, making it more difficult to find a particular community to join within that population. The UCLA Black Bruin Resource Center (BBRC) now serves as a hub for the Black and Afrikan Diaspora community. It provides resources to increase retention and graduation rates while playing a role in creating equity and access to education.
