UCLA Arts is a community of artists, scholars, educators, and activists, committed to creating institutional change and to combating racism. One of the ways we have reimagined our future is by creating the UCLA Arts Racial Equity Fund – this fund has a mission to address underrepresentation and its reverberations in the arts at UCLA. By supporting this important vision to grow our diversity, you can help us to fulfill our mission of educational equity for all.
Over the past year, our internal stakeholders engaged in community dialogues about Black Life and the student experience at UCLA Arts. From these dialogues, a collaboration between the UCLA Arts Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Commission and UCLA Arts Development has produced the UCLA Arts Racial Equity Fund, to provide new school-wide scholarships and fellowships to address disparities in student representation and access to education, and to strengthen the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students who identify as Black or African American.
This UCLA Arts Racial Equity Fund will provide scholarships for current and future students toward shaping the future of the arts & architecture for generations to come. The life of a student artist requires a constant of materials, resources, and inspiration to support its craft and practice. Scholarships provide resources for all of the above in addition to financial assistance that many students seek to complete their study. You can help us in opening a pathway for more students to embark on their professional careers in the arts as the artists, dancers, performers, architects, and creators who will design our future.
Through your generosity, our hope is for the UCLA Arts Racial Equity Fund to annually award scholarship support to eligible current and incoming undergraduate and/or graduate students.
We invite you to help us celebrate Black History Month by helping us to grow a robust scholarship fund to increase equity, inclusion, and the diversity of our school community.

Since 2016, we've only had 98 Black graduate students enrolled at UCLA Arts. Today, only 5% of our UCLA Arts graduate students are US residents who identify as Black. Over the past five years, we have not enrolled a single International graduate student who identifies as Black. We want this to change. Your gift will help us award scholarships and fellowships to support our recruitment of students and to build a more diverse school community.
Over the past 5 years, we've only had 247 Black undergraduate students enrolled at UCLA Arts. Today, Black Americans account for only 7% of our undergraduate students. Your gift will honor these students while building scholarship support for future generations of students on their journey toward shaping the future.
Black Americans account for 14.2% of the US population but only 3.6% of professors, and 6% of graduate and undergraduate students at UCLA Arts. Your gift to the UCLA Arts Racial Equity Fund helps us to foster an environment that values difference, rejects inequity and actively works to advance social justice and amplify historically underrepresented and excluded voices.
