Lucas Family AOA1 Research for a Cure

Friends, our 9 year old son, Sam, was diagnosed with AOA1 when he was just 5 years old. This rare genetic disease affects his vision, gait, walking, balance, running, motor skills and so on. We are blessed that he is still mobile and has the greatest attitude, but want to raise money to help UCLA Research for a Cure that could benefit him and our family, as well as, future children affected by ataxia. Our hope is in God and the progression of research and therapies that may offer a slowing of progression and keep him mobile. Thank you for your work and attention on this rare, debilitating disease. We are so grateful.

UCLA'S RESEARCH FOR A CURE

Brent Fogel, M.D., Ph.D, Director of the UCLA Neurogenetics Clinic and a member of the UCLA Ataxia Center is launching research to develop a groundbreaking gene therapy that has the potential to stop the progression of this disease. Gene therapy uses novel technologies to repair defective genes and has proven to be effective for a number of other rare genetic disorders.

Gifts to the Dr. Fogel AOA Research Fund directly support Dr. Fogel’s research laboratory. Your financial support is critical for moving this groundbreaking research forward and helping to find a cure to this terrible disease.
