My ongoing battle against the stigma on mental health has been and will be my priority for my upcoming years. Some might say the stigma is healing but I’d rather it be gone. I’ve experienced the effects and direct consequences of depression, stress, and suicide. Born and raised in Hong Kong, I’ve never been exposed too much mental health awareness. Emotions were seldom brought up and liberty was confined. Sadness was to be pushed away and trauma was never mentioned. With my acknowledgment towards preventative measures for mental health, I immediately dove into mental health education, through my work in Teenline. I wish this upon no one else and want to take action on preventative care. My volunteer work there provides free resources to those who are in crisis.
My intention is to help other teens who may be struggling with their health and avoid tragedies. I want to continue serving my duty of helping others, especially through my future in healthcare.
