Who are we?
The UCLA Trumpet Studio is comprised of students in UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. The collective group is comprised of talented musicians who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
What is NTC?
The National Trumpet Competition is a prestigious event, which happens annually, dating back to 1992. This competition brings together trumpet players from across the country to perform and collaborate with some of the world's greatest trumpet players.
After months of rehearsals and preparation, the UCLA Trumpet Ensembles successfully passed audition rounds and have been selected to compete into the quarter finals round at NTC. This gives us the opportunity to perform at the competition, which will be held in Boulder, Colorado this year.
How can you help?
UCLA has been accepted into four different categories this year and will be competing with 2 ensembles. That said, we are fundraising for 16 individual musicians! This is the largest group that UCLA has ever brought to the NTC, and this is the first year that UCLA will be competing with more than one ensemble. The trumpet studio’s qualification for NTC is an incredible feat, one that showcases talents of UCLA students from a wide variety of degree programs in the Herb Alpert School of Music, including undergraduate trumpet performance, global jazz, and music education majors, performance master’s students, and a musicology PhD student. Both ensembles continue to work diligently to not only compete in the next levels of competition at NTC, but foster community within the School of Music at large. It is the ensembles’ hope that these performances will showcase the talent, tenacity, and showmanship of UCLA’s students, create opportunities for engagement and recruitment for UCLA’s prestigious music degree programs, and expand interdepartmental relationships within UCLA’s diverse music community.
By making a donation, you will be helping us fly to and attend the competition, where both ensembles will put months of work to the test in live performances during the quarterfinal rounds. Students will also have opportunities to participate in workshops and masterclasses run by some of the industry's finest players and educators, learn more about trumpet industry at large, and attend performances by fellow competitors as well as a concert by the U.S. Army Brass Quintet. In addition to these education and engagement opportunities, students look forward to building camaraderie as a studio and meeting other trumpet players from around the country.
