My name is Sophia Cortez, and I'm a Junior at El Segundo High School. I joined the UCLA Mattel Youth Ambassador program as a way to give back to the community and express my passion for taking care of children. I am holding a fundraiser to raise funds for the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, which will benefit and enhance the overall experiences of children currently being treated at the hospital. I am also pledging to walk one mile for every $50 donated to this project.
When I was a toddler, I underwent a surgery to correct a trigger thumb issue that I was unfortunately born with and experienced on both hands. I know I received excellent care due to my parents' multiple retellings and anecdotes of my experience being treated by numerous healthcare heroes. I hope that children being treated today are also able to receive the same high quality of care that I was provided, so being involved with the UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital gives me the opportunity to provide for a better overall experience for young patients. I have the ability to uplift the spirits of children staying at the UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital- and you can too! All donations will directly fund fun programs and activities, to allow the pediatric patients and their families to feel loved and supported even through difficult times.
The funds raised from my project will positively impact the community at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital by providing children with new opportunities and experiences, such as Birthday Celebrations, Art and Activity kits, Music Programs, and much more!
