Our crowdfunding campaign has ended, but you can still support Women's Rugby by clicking here.
UCLA Women’s Rugby is a Division I Club Sport that strives to bring together rugby players of all experience levels from all across the globe. Since 2005, we've been competing in the collegiate division of the Southern California Women's Rugby Union and are now a part of the D1 Pacific Desert Rugby Conference, playing against teams as far away as Arizona and Utah. But above all else, we provide a supportive place for anyone, both on and off the field. A large majority of our players start their rugby journey here not knowing anything about the sport. By practicing consistently and learning from passionate, experienced coaches, our ruggers become equipped with the skills and confidence to compete at a D1 level.
Women's rugby, like rugby in general, is founded on a set of core values that emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development. It demands from its athletes the courage to face physical and mental challenges, the discipline to maintain a high level of self-control, and the integrity to make it an enjoyable experience for both sides. Players often see improvements in their self-confidence, communication abilities, and leadership skills through their participation in the sport. And to top it all off, women's rugby promotes inclusivity by enlisting players of all backgrounds, abilities, and body types.
Our roster has been expanding with each passing year. To reach our goals and accommodate this growth, we'll need plenty of experience. We've already competed against other teams in our Fall preseason, but we aim to face them once again even stronger. This year, we will travel as far as Utah and Arizona to compete against teams from across the West Coast, vying for a spot at the national tournament.
While our team is not currently recognized by the NCAA nor funded by the university, we aspire to achieve recognition in the future. Women's Rugby is currently one of the few Emerging Sports seeking NCAA status. When Women's Rugby attains NCAA championship status, we aim to be among the 40 teams included. To achieve this, we need to sustain and grow our program. While we have made significant progress since our club's founding, we remain committed to moving forward.
As a club sport, everything our ruggers need to succeed comes out of our own pockets. Our club dues simply aren't enough to fund our various expenses, including referee fees, uniforms, travel expenses, lodging, coaching salaries, safety equipment, and other necessary costs that help us improve, stay safe, and gain the experience to be successful.
That's where you come in. With your support, we'll be able to obtain the necessary resources to achieve our goals. A donation of $5 would cover the cost of one mouthguard for a player, and a donation of $250 would provide accommodations for our players at an away tournament! Every tax-deductible donation contributes to our team's success. Please consider supporting UCLA Women's Rugby with a donation! Thank you!
