Thank you for visiting!
Our crowdfunding campaign has ended, but you can still support UCLA Boxing by clicking here.
With our goal to raise $5000, we plan on allocating these funds to travel to competitions nationwide to legitimize our national title contention; to purchase safety equipment such as gauze, headgear, mouthpieces, and groin protectors to prevent us from getting injured on our way to Nationals in New York in April 2018; and to increase our visibility at these competitions by having uniforms in order to better represent what UCLA athletics stands for. Your contribution will help us prepare for our annual Rivals in the Ring Event on November 17, where will we compete against our cross town rival USC and other Pac-12 colleges at the LA Athletic Club in Downtown Los Angeles. Your donation will be directly used towards:
Hand Wraps ($4.50 per fight) ; Mouthpiece ($15) ; Groin Protector ($30) ; Uniform ($40) ; Annual USA Boxing License ($40); Boxing Gloves ($80) ; Headgear ($85)
Car Rental and Gas ($120) ; Food ( $900) ; Airline tickets and hotel ($3,350)
The UCLA Boxing Club is a team of students dedicated to study and practice of one of the oldest sports in history. Consisting of over half a dozen competing members spanning across multiple weight classes, as well as over 30 dedicated beginners spending time to learn the fundamentals with the team, the UCLA Boxing Club is dedicated to building Bruin champions inside the ring that lead by example outside the ring. On top of being full time students, we train every weeknight at UCLA in the Wooden Center and at Box N Burn gym in Santa Monica. Through studying “The Sweet Science”, we continually learn and uphold the core values of discipline, preparedness, leadership, physical and mental health, attention to detail, and teamwork; all values that have helped former Bruin boxers go from academic students to fields ranging from healthcare to law enforcement to professional boxing.
Under the tutelage of founder, head coach, and UCLA Alumni Tony Gonzalez, UCLA Boxing made history in 2016 when we brought back the NCBA championship. UCLA Boxing competes in the National Collegiate Boxing Association, an organization which allows students in multiple different locations around the country to compete with one another to try and be the best. We are seeking to bring “The Strap” (the championship belt) back home where it belongs once again, but we need your help. Our training is difficult, consisting of early mornings of cardio along with late nights in the boxing gym, all while being full-time students; our biggest obstacle, however, hasn’t been the school-practice balance or even the people standing across from us in the ring, but rather the price of travel and lodging nationwide to compete against other universities.
The first competition of this season for UCLA Boxing will be in November at the annual Rivals in the Ring show, hosted at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. It is here where various universities come to put their skills to the test against each other, with the main event being UCLA vs USC. It is an extremely fun black-tie event that is a great way to get excited for the annual UCLA vs. USC football game, and everyone should definitely look into attending! Any help would be greatly appreciated in helping us Bruins train and compete safely and to our fullest potential! Other competitions we will compete in include the Washington Athletic Club Invitational ( Seattle, WA Jan 2018) ; Dodge Ackerman Collegiate Invitational (Santa Clara, CA Feb 2018) ; Cal Berkeley Collegiate Invitational (Berkeley, CA Feb 2018) ; NCBA Regional Championship ( Reno, NV Mar 2018) ; NCBA National Championship ( West Point, NY Apr 2018).
