The Problem - A Country's Cancer Crisis
Among the poorest countries in the world with one of the lowest per capita incomes, Ethiopia has 90 million people and only four oncologists.
The challenges to developing internally sustainable oncology programs, which do not depend on international funding, are numerous and complex. There are enormous shortages of resources and few incentives for highly trained medical experts to work under tremendous hardships.
Our UCLA MBA students want to help change this and we need your help.
Our students are committed to helping change Ethiopia's healthcare narrative. Building off of our initial research conducted in country, our group will travel to Ethiopia in an international learning exchange to complete critical research to directly help local communities be better equipped to respond to this growing cancer issue.
Our students want their research to raise awaress for Ethiopia and generate dialoge for global leaders to address this growing health problem.

Our Team
A group of five second-year MBA students has completed their initial research in Ethiopia, but still has work left to do. Building off of our initial success, our goal is to send the team to Ethiopia to conduct more in depth research with the following core focal areas:
What We Want to Deliver
Importantly, the research data will be used to develop for an economically sustainable Oncology program proposal. Our student recommendations will serve as models which can be replicated in different regions of the country and potentially applied to other developing nations.
Our students research proposal will be presented at the Ethiopian Oncology Conference to world health and international leaders.
The overall goal of this project is to enable Ethiopians to create economically sustainable oncology programs that uphold the highest quality of care for cancer patients and retain talented health care providers inside the country - creating a viable cancer care model for developing nations worldwide.
THINK IN THE NEXT: WHAT UCLA BUSINESS STUDENTS CAN DO
Our students will work closely with Dr. Carol Harris and Dr. Taylor from Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York and Hawassa College of Medicine and Health Sciences in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to create a robust program and bring unique perspectives to this global health initiative.

All donations from our crowdfunding project will go directly to provide transportation, meals and offset student expenses so the team will be able to conduct their research.
With the growing costs of studying overseas, this project will suplement these eager and determined students with critical funds to explore their aspirations and help local communities.
