Hello all,
My name is Adam Shahar and I am a first year Master of Public Health student in the Community Health Sciences Department and I will be running a half-marathon. This is not my first time running, but rather another event in my long history of running. When I was a toddler I would run into the arms of my mother when she would arrive home from work. When I was a child I'd run from dogs. In my adolescence I would reluctantly run during PE classes. As a young adult I ran because I wanted to be different and find my place in the world. Now I run because I love to and because I bought these new comfortable shoes that have a tremendous amount of cushioning. Every time I run it's like stepping on a very expensive shoe.
Jokes aside, I am running to raise funds for students wanting to do their summer field work abroad. Even though I haven’t done my field work abroad yet, I know the amazing professional and personal benefits doing work abroad has. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador, and this challenging experience abroad led to my personal growth and interest in Global Health. I hope to be able to create that opportunity for my fellow students. Please join me in support of other students to make this a dream come true!
Sincerely,
Adam
