Thank you for visiting!
Our crowdfunding campaign has ended, but you can still support UCLA Cycling by clicking here.
The Road to Colorado
Cycling provides an outlet for many people to discover new places, friends, and physical and mental abilities. The sport, however, requires immense amounts of time and money for the students who want to participate. UCLA Cycling is fully funded by community donations and athlete contributions, making it extremely difficult to achieve some of our major goals. On May 3rd, 2018, UCLA Cycling aims to race in Grand Junction, Colorado, at the USA Cycling Collegiate National Championships. Our yearly budget does not cover all of the costs, including transportation, registration, and enough food to feed a dozen cyclists for half of a week, totaling $6500.
How can you help us reach this goal?
The UCLA Cycling team needs your help to get to the USA Cycling Collegiate Nationals in Grand Junction, Colorado! Our goal is $6500 in the next month to cover these costs. Your donation gets us a step closer to bringing a Nationals podium back to LA.
This is an opportunity to show your support for UCLA and the cycling community. We will post here, on our website, and on Facebook regarding race results and donation updates, so please check back regularly to see how your donation has been helping us!
"The UCLA Cycling team has given me not only a family but also the opportunity to achieve personal goals while encompassing a team mentality" - Ethan Frankel, Vice President
Our Story
Cycling is one of the most unique sports of our generation and has enabled our athletes to achieve their goals, whether that may be gaining fitness, meeting new people, or trying something out of their comfort zone. The UCLA Cycling team provides opportunities to explore places that many never go, and the riders enjoy every moment being out on these roads and trails with other students who share a passion for suffering, exploration, and camaraderie.
“I have been racing my bike for the past eight years of my life starting when I was eleven. Entering college, I left behind my closely-knit junior racing teammates and attended a school of 40,000+ students. Not only has joining the cycling team brought back that sense of camaraderie I loved racing as a junior, but it has also cultivated some of my closest friendships.” - Rupert Cox, Treasurer
For several of our athletes, the national championships are the pinnacle of the season and of their college experience.
Although the cycling team has been a club sport at UCLA for decades, but it wasn’t until last year (2017) that we had the opportunity to take our whole nationals team to Colorado. In 2017, 8 riders participated and we brought home a 5th place overall, out of over 60 teams, including a 4th place in the Team Time Trial and several top 10s. After winning our conference and placing so highly at nationals, we expect win conference again and are aiming for the podium amongst the strongest schools around the country.
Additionally, we were named UCLA Club Sports' "Team of the Year" for our accomplishments both on and off the road.
"Our accomplishments would not be possible without sponsors and donors who appreciate the tenacity, perseverance, and intelligence of UCLA Cycling student-athletes" - Acacia Shyr, Sponsorship Director
How do we give back?
Our team has been involved with volunteer projects with the LA Bicycle Coalition to promote safe roads for everyone and we have also recently begun the process of mentoring up-and-coming junior riders (aged 12-18) during races and rides throughout the year. Our goal is to bring together a community of people who enjoy riding bikes and staying while making the world a better and safer place for cyclists.
