Nationals 2019!

February 13, 2019

Thank you for donating to our cause last year. Thanks to your donation, we met our fundraising goal and sent 10 athletes to nationals. This year, we have 15 athletes with the drive to take the national stage. Fortunately, national championships is in Arizona this year instead of Alabama. This means our travel costs will be lower, and actually offset our additional registration costs. Consequently, our fundraising goal remains the same.

We believe it is very important to send our emerging athletes to nationals so they can become leaders of the team in the future. So they can continue fostering a sense of community and keep making triathlon the team that we all love. Even if you no longer have a direct connection to someone on the current roster, we hope you support the team that helped shape their college experience.

Additionally, we have an anonymous donor who has generously offered to double every donation we receive in order to help us reach our $5000 goal. So this year the small donations carry more weight than ever before, and our team would be very grateful for your continued support.  Below you can find a link to our updated campaign page. Whether or not you decide to donate again this year, thank you for supporting our team.

Team update!

January 15, 2019

Thank you so much for helping our team get to nationals last year! Since you supported our journey last year, we wanted to give you a few team updates.

Nationals was obviously the conclusion to our race season, but that didn't mean we stopped working. After a week or two of rest we get bored without training, so it wasn't hard to get back into the grind. Furthermore, we've found an additional motivator to get us out the door for a ride or a run. Over summer our Vice President, Madeline Foo, introduced our team to an app called "PULLL" which rewards your exercise by donating funds to cancer research. So every time we put something up on STRAVA (often twice a day), the many companies which finance PULLL make a donation. Not that we needed this motivator to keep up our lifestyle, but it certainly didn't hurt. If you bike, run, or walk, I encourage you to get this app for yourself.

Perhaps the most notable achievement in our "off-season" was made by Josh Archer. Josh raced his first Ironman, won his age group, and qualified for Kona. You can't really ask for a more impressive debut race. His performance, all the hard work that made it possible, and all the hard work he continues to bring to the team motivates all of us.

It turns out this motivation was contagious as well, because our team has grown significantly this season. Last year our trainer sets (the least favorite activity for many athletes) hardly drew a crowd. This year we routinely run out of trainers. We're excited to see how all these new athletes do once our race season begins next month; they've certainly put in the time and effort, it will be great to see them collect their rewards on race day.

Until then, if you'd like more updates from your favorite #funfitflirty triathlon team, follow our Instagram @uclatri. Thank you again for your support, and we hope to see you at our future races!
