Send the UCLA Geriatrics Fellows to AGS18!

Everyone knows someone who is aging. Whether that person be your parent, grandparent, or even a close friend or mentor, you want your loved one to experience an  outstanding quality of life and superior medical attention when necessary. Between 2010 and 2030, the population of those older than 80 is projected to rise 79 percent, but the number of family caregivers available is expected to increase just 1 percent. This leaves a huge gap which must be filled by  medical professionals.  

The next generation of geriatricians and gerontology specialists are already training at UCLA. By supporting this campaign, you can ensure that our fellows explore the full spectrum of Geriatrics research and build on their knowledge of the fields best practices.

Held annually, the AGS conference offers an opportunity for fellows to engage in mentoring with industry professionals, network with their academic peers from other universities, learn about the latest research. Attending and participating in this conference has become a vital part of our professional community, and many UCLA graduates remember their own time at the conference fondly. 

The 2018 conference takes place May 3-5 in Orlando, Florida. Our goal is to raise $20,000 which will cover the costs to send up to 12 fellows to the conference. The funding we collect will directly support our fellows’ participation in the conference, including registration fees, airfare, and hotel.

Conference Registration: $475 per fellow

3 Night Hotel Stay: $250 per night

Roundtrip Airfare: $500 per fellow

Total: $1,725 per fellow

$1,725 is quite an expense for our fellows, who are just starting out in their careers. In order to reduce the cost to the students to attend the conference, we are turning to Geriatrics alumni, faculty, friends, family, and the UCLA community. With your help, all 12 of UCLA's current fellows can attend the conference with as many expenses covered as possible. All in all, we are hoping to raise at least $20,000 in support of the next generation of UCLA geriatricians.

The VA-UCLA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is the largest and one of the oldest, most distinguished geriatric medicine fellowships in the United States. Since 1990, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center consistently has been ranked among the top three hospitals in the United States for geriatrics by U.S. News & World Report, and our over 200 graduates can be found in academic institutions throughout the United States and the world.
