Men's Water Polo 2019 - Funding the Future (again)

Our Team

UCLA Men’s Club Water Polo is a student run and student funded organization that runs through the UCLA Recreation Club Sports department. This year we have over 30 active members who have put in countless hours to help build a championship caliber team. We currently competing against five other teams in the Pacific Coast Division, one of the toughest division in the Collegiate Water Polo Association with multiple teams consistently ranked in the top-10 in the nation. This year the team made it to our league championship game and finished the season ranked 7th in the nation. The team not only provides excellent water polo development and experience, but has built an exceptional community around the sport where our members have found lifelong friends and lasting memories.

We are 3-time National Champions, winning in 2009, 2010, and 2013. Our ultimate goal for the upcoming year is to return to and win next year’s championship tournament in the Mid Atlantic. You can help us achieve this with your donations.

What We Need

Because our team is self-funded and only receives a small amount of money from the school, we have set our goal to raise $5,000. These funds, which would be instrumental to paying the costs of maintaining the team, would primarily be used on tournament fees and travel. Because we field 2 teams in an attempt to ensure playing time for everyone, our costs are basically doubled than they normally should be, taking up the majority of our budget. Additionally, travel costs such as gas and vehicle rental, alongside lodging at hotels, take up most of the remaining funds, leaving the club with less funds for team apparel and practice materials. Travel costs next season will especially be costly considering we are planning on making multiple trips to Northern California and the 2019 Nationals tournament is on the east coast.

Your donations would help alleviate the stress that comes with a student-run and self-funded team and would not only help this year’s team, but future teams to come.

Here are some examples of the costs for the team:

  • $50 - Tank of gas for travel

  • $200 - Lodging for four players in Davis, CA

  • $200 - Plane ticket for one player to Nationals Tournament on East Coast

  • $5,000 - League Tournament dues for the season for 2 teams
