A Campus Hub For Black Scholars

After years of activism and organizing by students, UCLA opened a Black Bruin Resource Center (BBRC) to support the Black Bruin experience and educational journey.

The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) has an enrollment of 46,430 students. Only 6.2% self-identified as Black / African American for fiscal year (FY) 2023, making the Black Bruin experience unique. Although the enrollment of Black students has increased by .5% since the fall of 2020, there is still more to be done to retain and graduate our Black scholars.

The center’s mission is to provide a hub for Black students to find and create community. The center serves as a fun social space that offers academic support and fosters mental health and wellness for Bruins. It has been a little over a year since the BBRC opened its doors in late September 2021. By November of this academic year, over 50% of our campus’s Black student population has visited the center and taken advantage of its resources, including counseling programs, career workshops, and cultural events.

UCLA IS COMMITTED TO UPLIFTING EVERYONE
IN OUR COMMUNITY

The BBRC creates programs and activities that facilitate recruitment of a more diverse student body and retention efforts for Black Bruins, such as academic guidance and matriculation to graduation. Join our efforts to build community and celebrate the Black/African diaspora's various cultures with a gift to the center today.

CAMPUS PARTNERSHIPS AND RESOURCES

These successes are due to a small team of dedicated staff and passionate student leaders — as well as devoted alumni and donors. Donor support has enabled the center to address food insecurity, provide free printing services, and much more.

WHY IS IT ESSENTIAL TO KEEP UP THE MOMENTUM?

UCLA strives to create an inclusive campus environment for the Black Bruin community to thrive. It is vital to support programs and activities that uplifts the Black Bruin experience.

WILL YOU JOIN US? Join UCLA Student Affairs in celebrating Black Excellence with a gift to the Black Bruin Resource Center! The sustainability of the BBRC is only made possible through the support of individuals from the Bruin community. Please consider giving to the Resource Center in the spirit of Black History Month.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE DEDICATED STAFF AND PASSIONATE STUDENT LEADERS FOR MAKING THE CENTER POSSIBLE AT UCLA.
