Who Are We?

UCLA Women’s Ultimate (BLU) is a nationally top-ten ranked Ultimate Frisbee team that fosters development of both players and people. Increased financial accessibility aids in the empowerment of our womxn athletes and equitable growth of the sport. Ultimate has made every player's experience at UCLA even more special. We are proud to represent UCLA at national-scale tournaments, and aspire to play and act in the "spirit of the game".

Ultimate is a heavy financial commitment, and is largely self-funded. Unfortunately, we don’t receive much money each year from club sports. Player dues are typically upwards of 300$ a quarter while in season, which accounts for bid fees for our 3-4 tournaments per quarter, transportation, lodging, tournament food, uniforms, and various other expenses. This fee does not account for player flights to our out of state tournament (this year we’ll be going to Seattle over spring break for Northwest Challenge) and *hopefully* Nationals.

On top of school and housing, these fees can be an incredible financial strain on players. We have players who work extra hours to pay for both their schooling and frisbee dues. We want to make ultimate more accessible for all our players by subsidizing player dues and providing financial aid for players who need it. Every year we face the problem that rookies won’t try out for our varsity team because of the greater financial commitment. We want ultimate to be financially accessible for everyone, and to eliminate money as a consideration when deciding whether to try out.  

Ultimate is growing massively as a sport. In tandem with this, BLU is rapidly developing and becoming more and more competitive. We qualify for Nationals almost every year (decided through Regionals in mid April) and currently we are ranked 10th in the country. We would love the resources to continue growing and working on our team chemistry, rather than focusing on the monetary aspects of the program.
