Our crowdfunding campaign has ended, but you can still support the UCLA Basic Needs Center by clicking here.
As the cost of living and higher education continue to increase, students are facing significant financial challenges that can deter them from pursuing and completing their degrees.
As a public university, UCLA is committed to accessibility. Tuition is among the most affordable compared to our elite peer institutions and 62.8% of students receive some form of financial aid. However, UCLA also enrolls more low-income students than all the ivy leagues combined and we have students who struggle to meet their essential needs: food, clothing, shelter, transportation and sufficient rest.
Demand for basic needs support is expected to increase in future years, and UCLA is working to establish an endowment to ensure substantial and long-lasting funding for basic needs efforts. In the meantime, annual fundraisers (like this one) are needed to address students' urgent needs.
UCLA has longstanding resources available to help students meet their basic needs, such as the Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT) for emergency funding, food security programs, short-term loans, housing assistance, and access to childcare. The newly opened center brings these resources together and serves as the first point of contact for students experiencing insecurity or financial challenges.
These services impact and improve the lives of many through proactive programs, experiential learning, community opportunities and more. The goal is for all students to know of these resources and to help them discover long-term solutions.
Many students attend UCLA with the hopes of improving their lives and their families' lives through higher education. Your gift delivers a powerful message to students - affirming individuals from all walks of life not only belong, but can thrive at our world-class institution.
Thank you for joining us in uplifting students with your gift to our Parents' Council fundraiser!
