In 2018, a group of passionate UCLA students came together to embark on the creation of UCLA’s first-ever roller hockey team with a dream to make it to Nationals! However, many of these students suffer from financial hardship, which is going to be the biggest obstacle to this team’s success. With your help and support, they will be able to bring attention to their beautiful school, not for just academics, basketball, or football, but for roller hockey, as well, in the wild West!
The newly formed UCLA Roller Hockey club sports team has been competing in the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA), joining over one hundred other colleges across the country. The sport of Roller Hockey has seen tremendous growth over the past decade, especially in Southern California. UCLA is now the 5th UC school to join the NCRHA, following UCSB, UCSD, Berkeley, and UCI. Besides the obvious, roller hockey differs from ice hockey in four main ways: 4v4 format instead of 5v5, the use of a lighter plastic puck, contact is allowed except for full-on body checking, and there is no offsides rule which allows players to utilize the entire rink at all times during the game.
Our primary goal is to raise funds for the athletes with financial need so that they can play on the UCLA Roller Hockey team. Money should not be the determinant of whether or not an athlete can or can not play. Therefore, if we could cover these players' league fees, hotel fees, and rink rental fees, we can get these individuals in the game, fulfilling their wishes, while also bringing a name to UCLA for the sport of roller hockey. It would be nearly impossible to put together a team without this funding; additionally, the possibility of attending Nationals would be 100% impossible without funding.
Since the UCLA Club Sports Roller Hockey Team is fully self-funded, if the funding goal is met, the team will utilize those funds to supplement the NCRHA League fee ($3,650), uniform costs ($200 per player), and travel costs to our tournament style game-day schedule (approximately $4,300+).
2019 Team Schedule:
Donating $10 will help us with gas expenses when traveling to and from practices and games.
Donate $20 to sponsor the baggage check fee for our hockey bags and sticks for our trip to Rochester, NY this April.
Biggest difference between roller and ice hockey? There's no ice to cool you down! $30 will allow us to buy a set of 6 water bottles for the bench.
You can't play roller hockey without the pucks! Donating $60 will purchase 12 roller hockey pucks for our team practices and games. In return, we will send you a signed thank you card with our team photo.
Donating $100 will help sponsor the airfare of one of our players for our trip to Rochester, NY for Nationals. In return, we will send you a video from the bench during one of our games thanking you.
Contributing $200 purchases one player’s full uniform, including a home jersey, an away jersey, and pants. In return, you will receive a white Under Armour team athletic t-shirt. ($175 tax deductible donation)
Donate $500 to cover the dues of two players. In return, you will receive an Under Armour team hat and t-shirt. ($455 tax deductible donation).
Donate $1,000 to cover the dues of four players. In return, you will receive a blue Under Armour team hoodie. You will also have the opportunity to be an honorary coach during one of our regional playoff games in March. ($940 tax deductible donation).
