In 2019, UCLA's Men’s Lacrosse Team will enter its 50th year on campus. One of the oldest collegiate lacrosse programs on the West Coast the self-funded club team is currently comprised of about 25 driven student-athletes from all over the United States. Being part of this team allows our student-athletes to continue to play the sport they love at a high level while also receiving a world-class education. Without NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse on the West Coast, the UCLA Club Men’s Lacrosse Team competes at the highest level: Division I of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) as a part of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC).
Our regular season campaign begins immediately at the beginning of winter quarter and lasts until Mid-April. Our student athletes participate in over 8 hours of practice and meetings a week. On the weekends the team competes against teams from California and throughout the Southwest with regular trips to the Bay Area, Las Vegas, and San Diego all the while keeping up with UCLA’s rigorous course load. Current Bruin lacrosse players have majors ranging from Mechanical Engineering to Political Science. Depending on the team’s regular season performance, there is also the opportunity to qualify for the SLC Conference Tournament and the MCLA National Tournament, which will take place in Salt Lake City this year. After just missing out on the SLC Conference Tournament the past two years, the team is hoping to return to the conference tournament in 2019.
Our Need
As a self-funded club team our main sources of income come from student-paid dues. With the success of previous campaigns and generous alumni donations we have been able to keep the lowest dues in the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference. This allows Bruins to continue to play the game they love while pursuing a world class education and other interests outside the classroom. The team is often met with new costs every season, which makes it difficult to keep dues at a consistent level. This year the team is facing new costs including purchasing new shot clocks due to NCAA/MCLA rule changes, upgrading helmets to maintain player safety and 50th anniversary alumni weekend.
We greatly appreciate any donation made to the team as well as any help you can provide spreading the word to help us reach our goal. We are extremely grateful for everyone’s continued support of UCLA lacrosse over the past 50 years and hope to make everyone proud on the field in 2019.
