Who are we?
Chinese Cultural Dance Club at UCLA (CCDC) was founded in 2000 with the vision of sharing Chinese and Chinese American culture through dance. We provide free Chinese dance lessons to the UCLA community, including students, alumni, and juniors from the Families with Children from China Program. We perform in outreach events in the UCLA community and the greater Los Angeles area, e.g. CACN Cultural Night, CSSA Chinese Cultural Night, and USC CSA Chinese New Year Show. People join CCDC to find their cultural roots, to seek a sense of belonging, or simply to make friends and have fun.
UCLA中国舞蹈团（CCDC）于2000年成立，旨在通过舞蹈的方式传播中国与华裔文化。我们是UCLA唯一一个中国舞蹈团，且近20年如一日地提供免费的中国舞课和中国舞演出。对于我们的很多成员来说，CCDC就像家一样。在这里，美籍华裔们可以探索中国文化的根，而留学生们也能得到归属感。当然，也有对中国文化并不熟悉的人，通过我们社团了解了中国。我们为UCLA增添了文化的多样性，也将中国文化传播给了更广的群众。
What is Lotus Steps?
Lotus Steps is CCDC’s annual showcase. It is a unique cultural event held during the spring quarter. The showcase includes classical Chinese dances as well as dances of various ethnic minorities. Wushu, Lion Dance, Indian Dance also join Lotus Steps as featured guests.
This year's Lotus Steps will be featuring the dance drama Li Bai. Li Bai is one of the greatest poets in Chinese history. Although living in an era of dramatic political changes, he preserved an optimistic and romantic attitude towards life. He is the Lord Byron of Chinese poetry. Our dance drama is an attempt to express the romanticism of Li Bai's poems in a completely different artistic form.
Lotus Steps是我们每年春季学期的年度演出。虽然Lotus Steps并非商演，而是面向大众免费开放，但是其灯光、舞美和舞者们的表演都是几近专业的水平。每场演出包含了古典舞、民族舞等多种类型，营造出沉浸式的欣赏体验，让观众们尽情感受中国文化艺术的美好。
今年，Lotus Steps采用舞剧的形式，讲述中国最伟大的诗人之一——李白的一生。演出改编自中国歌剧舞剧院同名舞剧《李白》。尽管李白生活在政治动荡之中，未能实现他的理想抱负，可他依旧旷达洒脱、充满了浪漫主义情怀。我们的舞剧便以此为主题，将李白的浪漫主义诗篇用舞蹈这种独特的艺术形式展现出来。
Why we need your help?
Lotus Steps is a completely free event that welcomes UCLA students as well as the greater community to attend. Lotus Steps 2019 will be held at Royce Hall, a prestigious yet expensive stage on UCLA campus. Stage rental alone counts for over 80% of our budget, and this comes with additional costs for costumes and props, programs, and advertising materials. In total, the production costs more than $30,000. Around 60 dancers and more than 20 staff members volunteer their time and efforts during the entire year to make Lotus Steps happen, but to keep the show free, we need the collective efforts of you and the whole UCLA community!
Below is a pie graph that shows how the money raised will be used towards the showcase. Our total budget this year is $32,000, and currently, we are still in need of at least $6,500 (about 20% of budget) for stage rental, costumes, and activity funds. We sincerely appreciate every dollar of your contribution, and we promise to devote all the donation towards a better performance.
我们今年的演出将于5月25日在UCLA最具声望、且能容纳1800人的场地Royce Hall举办。Royce Hall价格不菲，仅场地租赁和人工加起来就占了我们80%左右的总预算。60多名舞蹈演员及20名后台工作人员付出了一年的努力，争取为大家呈现一场精彩且免费的中国舞剧。因此，我们需要你们的支持，将专业的中国舞演出带来UCLA的校园。
以上是我们今年计划的捐款用途的饼图。我们今年总预算为$32000，而我们目前仍需至少$6500（约预算的20%）划分给场地租赁、服装道具以及宣传等用途。我们诚挚地感激你们的每一分捐款，承诺将所有捐款的款项用于演出的支出，并以更好的演出来回馈我们的捐款人。
