ABOUT OPERATION MEND
Founded in 2007, Operation Mend provides advanced surgical, medical, and psychological treatment for post 9-11 era military service members injured during combat or while training for service. Operation Mend offers comprehensive psychological health and social support for wounded service members and their family members. There is no cost to patients, their families, or caregivers for these services, including their medical or mental health treatments, travel-related expenses, and lodging.
All funding for the care of these warriors and their families comes from the support of grateful Americans and donors.
In response to the growing need for specialized mental health services, Operation Mend founded its Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) in 2016 for service members and veterans suffering with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI). The structured Intensive Treatment Program is designed for patients who require more than standard outpatient care and includes 3 weeks of treatment on campus at UCLA followed by 3 weeks of provider-facilitated peer-to-peer support over TeleHealth.
What has distinguished Operation Mend from the beginning is the program’s focus on including the family in care and providing comprehensive case management, coordination, and support that helps the entire family transition back into normal life. All transportation (including being met at the airplane gate), lodging, social support through the buddy family program and all medical care, case management and psychological care are provided by UCLA Operation Mend at no cost to the warriors or their family members.
