Send UCLA Wrestling to Nationals

Hello, we are the UCLA  Wrestling Club! This season, we are asking for your help to fund our team’s trip to the 2020 National Collegiate Wrestling Association’s National Wrestling Competition. Many of our members are unable to afford the $350+ flights to the Texas venue. In fact, a few teammates who earned West Coast Regional Champion titles could not attend Nationals due to high flight costs. We utilized our funds for hotels and registration fees, but were unable to stretch funds to support travel. Due to our DII status, our costs are not covered by the school’s athletics department. As a student-run club, we depend entirely on fundraisers and the generosity of donors.

We will use funds to pay for hotel rooms, essential travel costs, and tournament registration fees. You will be supporting a family of men and women fiercely dedicated to the highly disciplined, unique sport that is wrestling. With your help, we can continue to grow as a nationally competitive team and keep the tradition of UCLA Wrestling alive.

Our co-ed team competes at the Division II level, from state to national competitions, and we are launching a campaign to raise funds for our trip to the 2020 NCWA National Wrestling Championships.. Didn’t know UCLA had a wrestling team? Many students and faculty are unaware of UCLA’s rich history within the sport of wrestling. Former NCAA champions, Olympic medalists, and USA National Team Members have wrestled with a UCLA singlet on their backs. Unfortunately, Title IX cutbacks meant UCLA Wrestling was cut in 1981. The UCLA Wrestling Club was officially established in 2011, and became competitive in 2014. Founded and run by students, our team is dedicated to preserving the UCLA wrestling tradition, and eventually, getting enough support to establish a Division I NCAA program for both men and women. 

Thanks to generous donations during our previous season, we can now practice and host home competitions on the club’s very first wrestling mat. There is nothing as motivational as wrestling on a gold and blue UCLA mat, and thanks to our donors, we are able to do exactly that! In addition to this equipment, our donors’ generosity helped fund some road trips to out of state competitions and membership fees that come with sustaining both a men’s and women’s team. Last season, we had success at the state, regional, and national level; for the first time, two of our wrestlers earned bronze medals at the 2019 NCWA National Championships.
