Who We Are
The UCLA Women’s Club Soccer team is a student-run and self-funded organization of hard-working women who dedicate hours on end to academic excellence and their passion for soccer. We currently have 20 active student-athletes dedicated to making ourselves and our teammates better players and people. But club soccer is much more than just a team to us. We have met some of our closest friends through the program, people we know we can depend on, on and off the field.
The women on the team are the ones we spend the majority of our time with, from practices to games to tournaments. Having each other as a support system to lean on while maneuvering life as a UCLA student helps make this large school a bit smaller for each of us. We go to each other in times of need, such as when the stress of school can be too much, as well as just for ice cream, Target, or Diddy Riese runs. This team is a family, and there’s nothing that can replace the love and pride we have for playing with each other and for UCLA.
The Road to Nationals
The road to Nationals is long and filled with many expenses, which is why we need your help. It begins with buying new soccer balls to use at practice and new socks and uniforms to wear on game day. As our schedule picks up, we pay hundreds of dollars for our transportation and lodging. During the season, we travel all around California competing in league games every week before earning a bid to Regionals in San Luis Obispo at Cal Poly SLO. Once there, we hope to earn a spot in the Closed division at Nationals held in Austin, Texas. While each player pays dues to help fund our tournament fees, gas expenses, air fares, and AirBnB rates, none of this is possible without the kind donations we receive from people like you!
"This team is my happiness at UCLA––it is full of my best friends and is the best stress relief from the challenges of college. Playing club soccer is an amazing opportunity, especially because we get to travel around the country with our closest friends. We appreciate every donation to our SPARK campaign so much because every dollar helps us get uniforms, balls, field space, tournaments, and allows us to travel to our nationals tournament in Texas! Without our donors, this team would not be nearly as successful as we are now!" Isabel Jabara (right), third year.
History of the Team
Last year, we received a bid into the Open Division at Nationals held in Alabama. Despite a thunderstorm ultimately cancelling our semi-final game, we were awarded third place for our performance in the tournament. This year, we are hoping to continue on this path. We have qualified for Closed Division, the most competitive branch of Nationals, and we hope to move further than we made it last year.
None of this is possible without the generous gifts we receive from donors. We are so grateful for any donation of any amount. Not only does it help fund our competitions, but it also helps alleviate financial stress for players who already pay for tuition, housing, textbooks, and a meal plan. Whatever amount we do not raise, we pay for out of pocket. Donations not only help the team, but they help individual players continue to play the sport they are passionate about without too much financial strain. As an added benefit to donors, your donations are tax-deductible.
