2020 UCLA Women's Club Water Polo

Our Team

Meet our 2019-2020 UCLA Women’s Club Water Polo Team! A student run organization of 36 girls who all share a love for water polo. We are led by our amazing coach, MacGregor Sanford who has helped improve our individual skill sets as well as our overall team dynamic, and we owe most of our success to him. This year, we have quickly gained many new members, adding to the rising excitement and enthusiasm of building the team and competing against schools throughout California. We have previously been nationally ranked in the top 3 schools, and have the ultimate goal of making it to National’s at the end of our Winter season. However, although we are affiliated with UCLA Club Sports, we do not receive any funding from UCLA, relying solely on donations and outside sources to fund tournaments fees, travel expenses, and equipment for practice. 

What We Need

With an increase in player numbers, there is also an increase in equipment, travel costs such as hotels and cars, and the need for entering two full teams in every league tournament to allow for more playing time and individual opportunities. Without funding from UCLA, we rely heavily on fundraisers, such as this campaign, to sustain our team into the future and to subsidize any extra costs for members. We do not want financial burdens to be the reason players are not able to travel with us to tournaments or continue playing altogether. Additionally, the goal of attending Nationals this year would create a significant added expense to our budget.

Our ultimate goal is to raise $6,000 throughout the next 31 days in order to combat the financial difficulties we have had in the past and to provide opportunities for the future of our team. With your generous donations, we will be able to compete in our tournaments throughout California, provide transportation and housing to all members, and accommodate the gear and equipment needed for practice and games. Donors like you are so important to our success and your support helps to alleviate a large chunk of stress from our team. We ask that you help in any way possible, even if that includes simply sharing our campaign (this webpage!) and social media posts with your family and friends to create awareness about our cause. YOU will help keep our legacy alive!

2019 → 2020!

We are so thankful for all of the donations we received during our 2018-2019 campaign last year. In the past 12 months, we have been able to buy new water polo balls, protective game caps, and fitted competition suits. We have participated in three league tournaments, entering two full teams, as well as two pre-season tournaments in Irvine and San Diego. We also have been able to fully reimburse team drivers for gas bills, fund team bonding events outside of the water, and provide what we can to our coach for the time he graciously gives to us each week.

We are ready to make a comeback after a hard loss against Cal Poly SLO last year at Regionals, and are excited to continue competing with all of the new faces on our team! We appreciate all of your support, and we would love to see you all at some of our games this season!
