UCLA Ice Hockey: Repping the Bruins

UCLA Ice Hockey is one of the longest standing sports teams in campus history that dates back to 1926. The Bruins compete in the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference against some of the top west coast universities. With the help of you, the donors, last year, the team finished with an 18-3-1 record, defeated the #4-ranked team in the west region in the University of Denver, and went to the championship game at regionals; one of the best seasons in our 96-year history. With your help, we plan on going even further next year!

For us to continue representing UCLA and preserving the sport of ice hockey on campus, we need your help. As an entirely player funded team, UCLA Ice Hockey has issues every year regarding funding. Our players pay extremely high dues for the team to afford equipment fees, league fees, travel fees, and practice fees. Beyond this budget allocation, we have very little room for additional spending, which brings us to the purpose of this campaign.

Where Your Donation Will Go

1. Travel

Because UCLA has gone through multiple brand changes over the past few years: from Adidas to Under Armour, and now Under Armour to Nike and Jordan, the UCLA Hockey team has been unable to afford new equipment for the players on the team.  Now that there has been a full transition of players from Freshman to Seniors who have not been part of the team since the last helmet and gloves order, the players have mismatched equipment that does not match the colors of our UCLA jerseys.  This makes the team look less professional and organized as we compete against our competition, who have matching helmets, gloves, and pants to go along with their jerseys.  Your donations will help our players purchase royal blue helmets and royal blue gloves, which will match our jerseys and allow us to look better on the ice. 

2. Regionals/Nationals/Showcases

Currently, the UCLA Hockey team has only one set of blue uniforms.  It is standard for every hockey team to have a set of home and away uniforms, but issues with funding have prevented us from purchasing a set of white uniforms.  Your donation will allow us to purchase a set of white uniforms, which we will proudly represent as our away jerseys when competing in games across the west coast.

3. Ice Time 

The UCLA Hockey team only practices one time per week at late hours of the day.  Why?  Because ice time is expensive.  One hour of ice costs $500, and thus the team is not able to afford better times and more frequent practices.  While many of our opponents practice 3 times a week, we have only one.  Although we have been able to stay competitive despite this lack of practice time, our team would improve drastically if we were able to practice more than one time per week.  Your donation would allow us to increase our weekly practice from one to two times per week. 

In our past fundraising campaigns, our generous donors played an important role in the maintenance of UCLA Ice Hockey. Previous successful campaigns have enabled us to transition to our home rink at Pickwick Ice in Burbank and helped alleviate the financial strains of switching to Under Armour uniforms. The success the team has enjoyed these past few seasons would not have been possible without the support of our donors, and we are forever grateful for your continued support.

By donating to our campaign, not only are you helping improve the image UCLA Ice Hockey, allowing us to properly represent our school on the ice, but also you are helping to preserve and maintain one of the oldest traditions at UCLA. Our players cannot thank you enough for all of your support, and we will try our best to repay our donors with our performance on the ice.
