Alexandria's Mattel Youth Ambassador Project

As a Youth Ambassador for the Mattel Children's Hospital, it is my goal to raise $2,500 to support the hospital and children in need. I joined this program because I thought it would be a great way to do the two things that fulfill me the most: helping others and giving back to the community. Once I heard about this opportunity, I knew that I immediately wanted to become involved because I love working with children and even though I am not able to do so in person, this opportunity has given me the chance to help these patients from afar.

Amidst COVID-19, many children in the hospital who thrive on being able to socialize with others are being forced to adapt to this new way of life which has called for limited in person interaction as a means of containing this rapidly spreading virus. Currently, rather than having multiple children in a playroom at once, the playroom can now only hold one child at a time and in between hosting each child, the playroom gets disinfected to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, these children are unable to have in person social interactions with other children their age which is crucial, especially in the developmental stages. Not having any other children to connect with or talk to while in the hospital can negatively impact a child’s mental health.

If you choose to donate to this project, you will be helping to support patient and volunteer services at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital so that when children are able to get back to the hospital, they will be able to engage in these activities. These services include Music Programs for Patients, Art and Activity Kits, Holiday Festivities for Patients, Birthday Celebrations, and Special Needs of Patients and Families. These funds will allow the hospital to provide children with a sense of comfort and to make them feel at home so please donate if you can!
