In October of 2019 my mother, Nadira Begum, was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease and was confused as to what it was and what treatment options were available. Helping her make sense of what this diagnosis meant, I came across Dr. Anthony Wang's research on this disease. His guided explanation of what the disease was and the options of treatment via his recorded seminars gave us some clarity in a tumultuous moment. There was a lapse of 3 difficult months in which were approved to receive care at UCLA. The level of care she got Dr. Wangs practice gave my mother a new energy to persevere. Even throughout the uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis, she was full of joy and confidence as this practice continued their dedicated support. On June 20,2020 Nadira died of complications from a stroke.
To honor her memory, raise awareness for this disease, and advance the treatment options available to patients I'd like to fundraise for Dr. Wang's research by dedicating my marathon races. Thank you for supporting her memory and others who may be in her position currently.
