Hello Friends,
This Black History Month, will you become one of the first supporters to help UCLA found a groundbreaking Hip Hop Initiative? Your gift will support:
- Artist In Residence Program
- Digital Archive
- Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Hip Hop Studies Publications
- Faculty Advisory Board
Hip Hop is an innovative form of Black art and expression, which often goes overlooked by academic institutions. Yet, the art form has made an undeniable global impact, influencing politics and commerce for billions of people. With your help, we can build the first major research program for Hip Hop on the West Coast.
To start this initiative, we have already hosted programming with world renown Hip Hop artists, facilitated working groups, and created editorial space for Hip Hop focused research in UCLA’s Ethnomusicology Review and the world’s first Hip Hop Book Series in collaboration with UC Press. We believe that UCLA, situated within Los Angeles, is the perfect place to launch a leading Hip Hop Initiative on the West Coast.
Thank you for your consideration,
Professor H. Samy Alim, Anthropology, Associate Director, Bunche Center
