60 for the 60th Campaign

The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health is turning 60! To honor this momentous occasion, please consider making a gift to support 60 Fieldwork Fellowships for our 60th anniversary by April 10th.

Interest in public health has increased exponentially over the past few years, due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic. We welcomed our largest class ever this fall and are excited to help them thrive at and beyond UCLA. We need your assistance in raising funds for 60 additional fellowships to successfully launch our newest students. These fellowships will be awarded in the summer of 2022, during our 60th year, to help students connect what they are learning in the classroom with real world experience.

Did you know that all students pursuing a master’s of public health (MPH) degree must complete a 400-hour fieldwork experience? For about half of our students, this is an unpaid internship.

We currently have funds to support half of our students’ fieldwork experiences. If successful, this campaign will ensure that all of our students in need are provided income for their full-time public health internships over 10 weeks this summer.

Of the 418 currently enrolled MPH students, 80% receive financial support, the average amount of which is over $26,000. In addition to Fielding fostering financial diversity, 45% of our MPH students are from underrepresented minority communities. Many of our students wish to intern for local non-profit and public organizations that serve the most marginalized Angelenos. Many of these organizations, however, cannot pay. Your gift will ensure that students are able to choose work most meaningful to them and, oftentimes, at organizations that will equip them with public health knowledge and best practices to bring back to their communities.

Our mission in public health education, research, and service is to build health equity and effect positive change for all people. Our faculty and students drive innovation through research and collaboration with communities to better understand and overcome barriers to good health and well-being. They respond to urgent needs when crises like the coronavirus pandemic strike.

School rankings and recognition often factor in the percentage of a school’s alumni who have become donors. When you choose to invest in public health at UCLA, you’re not only supporting students as they build leadership experience, and helping Fielding recruit the brightest faculty and student talent, but also increasing the value of a UCLA Fielding School of Public Health degree.

Donations of every size will ensure that FSPH continues to offer world-class research and education to solve the challenges facing the 21st century and serve the most vulnerable populations locally and globally.

Join the community cheering on public health at the top public university in the world by being counted as one of our 60 for the 60th benefactors. Help us celebrate our School’s deep impact and bright future. Remember, donations of any size count toward our goal!
