The UCLA Samueli Senior Class Gift has been a tradition for the past 18 years. Each year, the Senior Class unites around a common cause to leave a lasting impact on future Bruin Engineers as they leave the school. Previous projects focused on funding for student projects, mental health & wellness programs, and the Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity (CEED).
In a narrowly decided ranked-choice vote, the Class of 2022 selected student scholarships as their priority.
Students at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering are among the most talented and high-achieving in California and across the globe. More than 30 students apply for each undergraduate opening at UCLA Samueli, making the school one of the most competitive in the nation. For many of those talented students, attending UCLA Samueli is made possible by the scholarships they receive. The notion of student debt will prevent many students from even considering higher education, let alone accepting an offer to enroll.
We have heard from our current engineering students that scholarship support has been particularly meaningful, especially with all of the challenges brought on by the pandemic. We are so inspired that the Class of 2022 is coming together in this year's Senior Class Campaign to support future classes of Bruin Engineers. By making a gift to support the senior class campaign—you can help prospective Bruins achieve their goals and effect positive change.
A gift of any amount donation gets us one step closer to reaching out $6,000 campaign goal.
Why is $6,000 the goal? Endowed scholarships provide about $5,000 in scholarship support on an annual basis when fully funded. We chose $6,000 in order to offer a substantial award to a deserving student and make a comparable impact.
$6,000 is also a considerable help when applied to tuition and fees. With tuition at $13,804 for an average academic year, being able to cover a student's tuition, as well as books and supplies, for at least one quarter makes a huge difference.
For graduating seniors who make a donation of $20.22 (at minimum) in honor of their graduation year, they'll receive an Engineer's Ring. The Engineer's Ring in the United States is a stainless steel ring, worn on the fifth finger of the working hand by engineers who have taken the Obligation of an Engineer oath.
For anyone who makes a gift of $100, they'll receive our Samueli Alumni metal camper mug.
