Who Are We?

UCLA Womxn's Ultimate (BLU), is a nationally ranked ultimate frisbee team that fosters both athletic and personal development. Increased financial accessibility aids in the empowerment of our players and the equitable growth of the sport as a positive and inclusive community. BLU is strongly committed to teamwork and sportsmanship and ultimate has made all of our college experiences even more special. We represent UCLA with pride at national tournaments and aspire to both play and act in the "spirit of the game." 

Playing ultimate requires a large financial commitment and is largely self-funded. Unfortunately, BLU does not receive sufficient aid from UCLA Club Sports. Each player's dues typically surpass $300 per quarter, which includes tournament fees, transportation, food and lodging, uniforms, and various other expenses. However, these dues do not account for plane tickets to out-of-state tournaments, such as Northwest Challenge in Seattle, and hopefully, Nationals.

Along with the cost of attending UCLA and housing, these extra fees can place an incredible financial burden on our players. Many of our athletes work additional hours to afford their schooling and these ultimate dues. We strive to make the sport more accessible to everyone by subsidizing player dues and providing financial aid to anyone in need. Every year, rookies turn down the opportunity to try out for BLU due to the greater financial commitment. We do not believe money should be a barrier to playing for our team. Ultimate should be financially accessible for everyone.

Ultimate, though a relatively new sport, has grown rapidly in recent years. BLU has also been swiftly developing as both a team and program, becoming increasingly competitive over time. We quality for Nationals almost every year and we are currently ranked 16th in the country. We would love to have the resources to continue growing and strengthening our team chemistry, rather than having to focus on the monetary aspects of ultimate.
