Our crowdfunding campaign has ended, but you can still support the Undergraduate Writing Center by clicking here.
For over a decade, UCLA undergraduate students have come to the Undergraduate Writing Center at all points during their academic careers to receive free, individualized and confidential tutoring. This invaluable campus-wide resource for all UCLA undergraduates has helped these Bruins supercharge their writing skills.
In order to continue providing 9,000 one-hour writing consultations each year, the UWC needs your support. Help us reach our goal of $15,000 so we can continue offering free, vital services designed to help UCLA undergraduate students not only master individual writing assignments, but also become more effective and confident writers at UCLA and beyond.
Your contribution, regardless of size, will directly impact students by providing the funding needed to keep this center running.
As part of UCLA Writing Programs, the UWC’s mission is to enrich the education of undergraduate students in all disciplines through individualized writing consultations.
The UWC provides free, one-on-one appointments at three locations around campus where students can receive assistance on course papers, research papers, capstone projects, senior thesis papers, resumes, CVs, personal statements, statements of purpose and cover letters.
The UWC’s services are provided by trained Peer Learning Facilitators (PLFs) who represent various majors, hail from diverse backgrounds and provide one-on-one, individualized feedback in a casual environment.
PLFs can help writers discover, explore and articulate ideas, and they can suggest writing strategies and alternatives for writers to consider. They provide instruction in the conventions of academic writing, appropriate use of sources, and language use and editing strategies. In the end, PLFs leave the decisions and actual writing and editing work to the undergraduate writers themselves — empowering them to strengthen and develop their skills and abilities.
Thank you for advancing the UCLA Undergraduate Writing Center’s work to help Bruins develop the skills they need to become more confident writers, preparing them for their academic and professional futures.
