Our crowdfunding campaign has ended, but you can still support the UCLA Community School by clicking here.
Help the K-12 students at RFK UCLA Community School by supporting summer enrichment learning opportunities. Your gift will offer students opportunities to attend UCLA's BruinCamps, where they will experience a variety of recreational activities. At Bruins on Water, for one, students learn kayaking, paddle boarding, and sailing with recreational professionals in Marina del Rey. These programs develop leadership skills and provide positive experiences with their peers outside of academic environments.
RFK UCLA Community School was launched in 2009 as a partnership between UCLA and the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school serves Koreatown and Pico-Union, which are densely populated immigrant neighborhoods. Before the school opened, only one-third of the high school graduates in the area went on to attend college. By 2018, that percentage increased threefold, to 91%.
Your support will enable us to offer summer enrichment programming including UCLA's UniCamp program, which is a week-long summer residential camp in Big Bear, California, where students are encouraged to explore and interact with the outdoors. Through these programs, students also connect with individuals that can inspire and aid their academic journeys beyond high school.
As a public institution, the school enrolls racially diverse students from the local neighborhood, 95% of whom qualify for free and reduced lunch. There are no admissions requirements; all students are welcome. Almost all of the families experience the challenges of poverty, making it difficult to provide the type of enriched experiences that young people in more affluent neighborhoods enjoy. Please join with us to level the playing field and provide access to the summer learning opportunities that are so formative in a young person’s life.
We thank you for partnering with us to offer summer programs and activities crucial for the success of our students.
