When this fund meets the endowment minimum, which is currently $100,000, through additional donations to this fund, it will be converted from a current expenditure fund to an endowed fund.

Once the fund is converted to an endowment, establishment and administration of the fund will comply with current policies of The UCLA Foundation. Although the fund is intended to exist in perpetuity, unforeseen circumstances may alter or remove the subject area from the campus academic plan or it may become impossible or impracticable to administer. In such an event, the Chancellor is authorized to redesignate the purpose of this fund after taking into consideration the designated purpose described above.

The UCLA Foundation will manage and invest these gifts in accordance with its endowment investment policies. The total return earned in excess of the amount approved annually for payout will be retained in the fund principal to protect from the effects of inflation and to allow for growth. Furthermore, the return of payout to the fund principal is authorized at the discretion of the appropriate campus official when the payout is not needed for purposes of the fund.

As is customary with universities and other non-profit organizations across the country, a one-time gift fee is applied to each pledge payment to provide essential support necessary to UCLA's overall operation. The fee is currently 6.5%.

All gifts to support UCLA accord with the University's foundational value of academic freedom, which is essential to its research and teaching mission. At no time, today or in the future, shall any donor unduly direct the inquiry, research, teaching, or learning of faculty, students, or staff. This gift will be governed by UCLA's policies and procedures.
